•
MEMO TO: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR
DATE: APRIL 19, 1995
SUBJECT: PARK PATROL
Volunteers for the Park Patrol met Saturday, April 1. All seven
in attendance are interested in doing whatever they can to keep
the parks safe for park users. Two of the volunteers,Greg
Fausone and Robert Daniel, live around Silver View Park and have
a special interest in patrolling Silver View especially weekends
and evenings. Jim Perault, long time softball player and teacher
in the Mounds View School District, is interested in bicycling
around to the neighborhood parks in the evenings and weekdays.
Allan Janson, Dave Lang and Bill Bostrom are also interested in
visiting all the parks whenever assigned. Janet Bona is
available also during the daytime and evenings wherever the need
is.
All seven volunteers were extremely flexible. In addition, they
• all expect to be walking or bicycling. I have ordered Park
Patrol shirts for each volunteer. In addition, first aid packs,
park keys, city maps with park locations and emergency
communication numbers for telephoning reserves or police on duty
will be .distributed at the next meeting which is scheduled for
Saturday, May 6.
During the first meeting we reviewed the new comprehensive park
ordinances. We discussed common rule infractions and reasons for
rules and regulations. They were instructed in procedures and
responses. Further information will be given to them regarding
permits, picnic reservations and other instances that require
customer service responses.
All volunteers were very happy with the role of a customer
service agent for the department and feel comfortable in that
role. They also understand that they will be reporting
maintenance problems to the department and responding to
emergencies if any arise. Last but not least they will be
educating park users on appropriated behavior in the parks.
I am very happy with the response and the quality of the people
that have volunteered to be Park Patrols. They have very good
service attitudes and are genuinely interested in making the
parks a fun and safe place to be in the community. When asked
why they volunteered to be a Park Patrol, all resounded with the
• response that they appreciate Mounds View Parks and wish to give
a little to the City and the people, and they feel that this is a
way that they can offer their time for this purpose.
