•
TO: Samantha Orduno, and the Community Connections Committee
FROM: Suzy Kaiser, Focus Group Facilitator
DATE October 26,1995
I understand that the Mounds View City Council is still wrestling with the issue of the
pedestrian bridge across Highway 10. Although the Focus Group process is not
complete I thought you might be interested in knowing that the issue of transportation
for children and families to facilities and services within the city, as well as availability
of transportation to facilities and services outside the city, has been an issue raised in
every group so far. As a part of that discussion, the groups have raised the danger of
Highway 10 for citizens, especially children, in our community. The desire to work
toward solutions to this barrier have been expressed. People within the groups have
brought up the pedestrian bridge being a project that the City of Mounds View has
been working toward. Some members in each group have been unaware that such
411
plans are being looked at, and have express interest that the city continue efforts in the
area of a safe link across the highway. The bridge concept has been supported in
each group as a part of a solution to the transportation needs they see exist.
I am passing this information unto you at this time as I know budgetary decisions may
need to be made prior to the completion of the Focus Group project. It is an issue that
is not facilities as such, but it is an accessibility issue to existing facilities and facilities
that may be developed within the City of Mounds View in the future. If you believe this
is information that should be communicated to the council at this time, please feel free
to do so.
I am hopeful that this issue and others that have been and will be raised in the focus
groups, will be of use to the Community Connections Committee as they continue their
task.
411
