-2- <br /> WELLNESS PROGRAM UPDATE Staff provided a brief background on the <br /> Wellness/Healthy Lifestyle Programs and <br /> indicated that Ms. Linder would be in atten- <br /> dance at the next regularly scheduled Park <br /> Commission meeting . Staff reviewed the <br /> February 16 Wellness Day and indicated that <br /> an invitation would be forwarded to each of <br /> the Commissioners during the coming week. <br /> Commissioner Letendre stated that the Gil- <br /> • lette Corporation as a Stay Well program <br /> which has been well received by his fellow <br /> employees. <br /> SWIMMING POOL REQUEST Staff indicated that a Ms. Connie Harris had <br /> contacted staff regarding the feasibility of <br /> developing an outdoor pool facility at the <br /> Red Oak School site . Staff indicated to Ms. <br /> Harris that we did not feel that it would be <br /> feasible at this time due to the initial <br /> construction as well as maintenance costs. <br /> The Park and Recreation Commission then <br /> discussed the Red Oak site in general and <br /> directed staff to forward a letter to the <br /> Superintendent of Schools indicating that <br /> they would like the School District to con- <br /> sider the recreational needs of the neigh- <br /> borhood when reviewing future development <br /> plans. • <br /> GROVELAND PARK DANCE Mr. Ron Schmidt , a representative from <br /> Groveland Park Foundation , was on hand at <br /> the Park Commission meeting and encouraged <br /> each of the Commissioner to attend the <br /> Groveland Park Dance slated for February 10 , <br /> 1984 at the Bel Rae Ballroom. Mr . Schmidt <br /> also indicated that the Groveland Park Foun- <br /> dation was having a meeting on Monday, Jan- <br /> uary 30 at 8 : 00 p.m. at the Groveland Park <br /> shelter building and welcomed each of the <br /> Commissioners to attend if possible . The <br /> Commission thanked Mr. Schmidt for the fine <br /> work that had been accomplished through the <br /> Groveland Park Foundation and indicated <br /> their continued support of their efforts. <br /> STAFF REPORT Staff reviewed the staff report highlighting <br /> the Metro Monitor survey which indicated <br /> that 94% of the metropolitan areas adult <br /> population think parks are valuable . The <br /> study went on to say that the majority of <br /> people chose parks ahead of public transit, <br /> fire protection , libraries, welfare and sew- <br /> ers as a public service spending priority. • <br />
