MEMO TO: Mounds View P s & Recreation Commission
111/0 FROM: St. 0 4
DATE: January 25, 1984
RE: January, 1984 Staff Report
The following items are issues that do not require official Commission action
but will hopefully provide a better update of recent activities that have oc-
curred within our department:
1. PROGRAM MEETING - Attached is a copy of a letter that has been forwarded
to the local programming agencies within School District #621 to discuss
and hopefully develop a memorandum of understanding regarding programming
and facility usage within the School District. There have been a number
of problems that have developed over the past year of program duplication,
and facility usage that need to be clarified through same type of formal
understanding and agreement. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb-
ruary 8 at 9:00 a.m. at the Midwest Federal Bank Building on Silver Lake
Road and if any of the Commissioners would be interested in attending,
feel free to contact myself directly.
2. COOPERATIVE PROGRAMMING WITH MERMAID SUPPER CLUB - Staff worked with Mr.
Dan Hall, Owner/Manager of the Mermaid Supper Club and Lanes to coordinate
a broomball tournament on January 20 and 21. Unfortunately, we did not
111/0
receive enough team registrations to make the tournament a success, but
staff feels that future programming efforts with local businessmen is a
positive means of soliciting greater involvement in our adult recreation
programs. We received a good response from the Mermaid Supper Club and
hope to work with them on future programming efforts.
3. GOLDEN GLOVE BOXING - The local Golden Glove Boxing Program is sponsoring
a dinner and boxing match on Thursday, January 26 at 6:30 p.m. I realize
that this is the evening of the Park Commission meeting, but if anybody is
interested in joining me after the Park Commission meeting, I do plan on
- attending at least part of the evening's festivities. Tickets for the
event are $10 per person for dinner and boxing or just $4 for the boxing
only.
4. WINTER SKATING - The winter skating program continues to be a positive
program offering with the winter ice conditions being good and our winter
rink attendants working out extremely well. We have established a four
team boot hockey league on an informal basis which appears to be well re-
ceived by the young people.
5. GROVELAND PARK MEETING - The Groveland Park Association will be holding
their monthly meeting on Monday, January 30 at 8:00 p.m. in the Groveland
Park warming house. If anyone is interested in attending or representing
the Park Board, feel free to stop up and attend the meeting on Monday
evening. In addition, the Groveland Park neighborhood is sponsoring a
• me
large rink party including broomball, snacks and beverages commencing at
8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. If you are interested, you are welcome to
just stop by and join in the festivities. _
BKA/sll
Attachment
