Working with "givens"...
Some elements of the design theme might offer the
opportunity to make use of past work that was less
than effective -- bringing reason to elements that
might not otherwise fit (or even be desirable).
Memory, discovery, whimsy...
Elements of the design theme must be memorable,
maybe being fully discovered ("seen") only after
they have been viewed several times. Some ele-
ments might be more memorable -- and more
enjoyable -- if they are treated in a more light-
hearted manner_
Appropriateness...
"Unique" is not always the best answer; some-
times the strongest solution will be found in what
is most "appropriate" -- that which could only hap-
pen here in Mounds View.
"Gateway"...
Some of the best gateways announce a community
with ideas that speak without words; even when
words are used, they are sometimes most appropri-
ate as a small part of the message.
identity...
An identity cannot be created through a design
theme; the design theme can only reinforce an
identity that already exists. The process must
bring out the community's true identity for a
design theme to be meaningful.
D N S
D E R
WELCOME TO MOUNDS VIEW Y
FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION
JILLY 2 =4
'-er
A T 1 D
*Bva
Seeker SLuare
Bockcr, Minnesota
Mississip i Riyexwaik-
Elk River, Minnesota
Larpenteur Avenue
Falcon Heights, Minnesota
Gateway Corridor
Champlin, Minnesota
Larpenteur Avenue Streetscape
Falcon Heights, Minnesota
H i h w a y 10 Corridor Design Theme ®e H«isington Koegler Group Enc.
City of Mounds View, Minnesota
