MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Direc Parks, Recreation and F. ' DATE: August 25, 1982 RE: Monthly Update/July, 1982 The following issues and programs are outlined to provide the Commission with a better overview of the department's day to day operations. Each of the listed items are strictly information oriented and not intended for formal commission action: 1 . Groveland Park Fundraising- staff has been meeting with residents from the Groveland Park neighborhood who have been interested in developing a fund raising program to raise money for developing Groveland Park. They have established tennis courts and a warming house shelter building as their current goals and objectives. Following two community-wide meetings, they have scheduled a community gathering on September 11 , 1982 with a volleyball tournament, cake walk and other activities to raise money. Staff has informed the Groveland Park residents that any proposed park improvements must be reviewed by the commission before they can be made. • 2. Park vandalism - The Lambert Park shelter building has been vandalized with the new door having been kicked in approximately one week ago. In addition, we have repainted the tornado slide at Greenfield Park twice to cover the obscenities. The gate swing at City Hall Park was also destroyed during the past week. Other then that, the vandalism has been kept to a bare minimum during the summer season. 3. Summer C.E.T.A. Program - The summer C.E.T.A. Program is drawing to a close on Wednesday, August 25, 1982 and we were fortunate to have ten summer staff employees working in both park maintenance, the pool operation and clerical assistance to our department. With over $18,000 worth of labor provided to the city, they once again provided an impor- tant role in our department. 4. Silver View Park Contracts - Staff has negotiated two settlements with two of the contractors, i .e. Crowley Fence and W. J. Eberts, for the Phase I construction at Silver View Park. We still currently have one contract outstanding at Silver View Park that being for J. and S. Sod which we are currently withholding $9,000 as we are not accepting the sod contract. 5. Park Shelter Building Policy - The Mounds View City Council formally adopted the resolution regarding the establishment of a park shelter building policy. The only modification that the council added to the 11111 memo was to state that the funding for the park shelter buildings would come from sources other than the current general fund; i .e. state and federal aid, revenue sharing, etc.
