MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson , Director
Parks , Recreation and Forestry
DATE: July 3 , 1984
RE: Recreation Program Update
Enclosed is a copy of the July/August City Newsletter which you
have hopefully received at your homes by now, as well as a copy
of the 1984 Festival in the Park activities. In addition , I have
also enclosed a list of all our recreation programs indicating
projected expenditures versus revenue with the final profit and
loss column for each of our recreation programs. Staff will be
reviewing the revenue projections as a part of the 1985 budget
process with the City Council , and I would appreciate your input
regarding the fee structure and revenue projects as outlined.
•
We have increased our fees by approximately 20% - 25% in all pro-
gram areas during the past two years to help eliminate the exist-
ing $30 ,000 debt in the Recreation Activity Account. Staff feels
110 we are getting precariously close to pricing our programs out of
the marketplace . Our current sport fees are $15. 00 per individu-
al with no break for more than one individual in the family.
Staff would like to encourage some type of philosophical discus-
sion regarding the practicality of charging a maximum per family
for a particular sporting activity or program such as $30. 00 max-
imum per family or possibly a sliding fee scale such as one child
- $15. 00 , two children - $25. 00 , three children - $30. 00 , etc .
As we are currently in the process of finalizing the 1985 budget
process, I think it' s imperative for the Commission to review
this issue as well as the other budget issues at Thursday' s meet-
ing .
Once again , should you have any questions regarding this issue ,
feel free to contact myself directly at 784-3055, ext. #41.
BKA/sll
•
