Mounds View City Council May 8, 2023 <br />Regular Meeting Page 2 <br />1 City Administrator Zikmund administered the Oath of Office to newly appointed Police Chief Ben <br />2 Zender and his badge was pinned on. A round of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br />3 <br />4 Police Chief Zender thanked the Council for their support. He then recognized the law enforcement <br />5 officers that were recently killed in the line of duty in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He thanked <br />6 Sergeant Kampa, Sergeant Nelson, Sergeant Menard and Police Chief Harder for sharing their <br />7 leadership and mentor skills with him. He thanked his wife and family for their tremendous <br />8 support. Lastly, he thanked his officers for working so diligently on behalf of the community. <br />9 <br />10 B. Citizen of the Year Presentation — Kathie Anderson. <br />11 <br />12 Acting Mayor Meehlhause recognized Kathie Anderson as the Mounds View Citizen of the Year <br />13 for 2022. A round of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br />14 <br />15 Kathie Anderson thanked her family and the Lions for their support. She also thanked the City of <br />16 Mounds View and stated she loves living in this community. <br />17 <br />18 The Council thanked Kathie Anderson for being a tremendous steward for the community. <br />19 <br />20 C. Coach of the Year Presentation — Adnan Omanovic and Robert Turner. <br />21 <br />22 Parks and Recreation Superintendent Thomas recognized Adnan Omanovic and Robert Turner as <br />23 the Mounds View Volunteer Coaches of the Year for 2022. A round of applause was offered by <br />24 all in attendance. <br />25 <br />26 Adnan Omanovic thanked the City for this recognition. <br />27 <br />28 Robert Turner thanked the City for this honor. <br />29 <br />30 D. Public Works Week Proclamation. <br />31 <br />32 Acting Mayor Meehlhause read a proclamation in full for the record declaring May 21 through <br />33 May 17, 2023 to be National Public Works Week in the City of Mounds View. <br />34 <br />35 Council Member Gunn thanked the Public Works Department for all of their efforts on behalf of <br />36 the community. <br />37 <br />38 E. MVPD Quarterly Report — Police Chief Ben Zender. <br />39 <br />40 Police Chief Zender provided the Council a quarterly update from the Mounds View Police <br />41 Department. He explained VCET continues to be active in the community. He reported he <br />42 nominated several of his officers for traffic related awards. He thanked the community for <br />43 supporting and attending the Daddy Daughter Dance in February. He discussed how he was <br />44 partnering with the community on the Tribute Park. He stated the City recently held a DNR <br />45 hunter's safety course, which was the first class held since COVID. He explained in January the <br />46 department participated in the Polar Plunge in order to raise funds for Special Olympics Minnesota. <br />
