03/25;'99 . ;18 ;b 16i.. 92812i iaACA EIU02
de et:
r l l toles- 5 7osS
(am'` lerr •
cq
DR .FT
March 23, 1999
Mounds view Community Center
Propan l for Market Research
Background
In the last three months as programing at the Mounds View Community Center
has been done by the YMCA of Greater Saint Paul, questions have arisen on
the most effective way to reach residents and fill up the programming.
The following questions need to be addressed:
* What is the moat effective method of getting information to residents?
* What is the most effective/efficient session duration?
* Are fees a barrier to participation?
* What are residents willing to pay in terms of fees?
* What types of programming are wanted by different target audiences?
* How can we more effectively involve a greater number of residents in the
use of the new community center?
* Is transportation a barrier to accessing programming?
Proposal
in order to understand the wants and needs of residents in Mounds View and
the surrounding area, we propose developing a survey document to be
conducted with a random sample of individuals and families.
This survey could be conducted in two ways:
1.) Formal research -- a phone or mail survey could be put together by a
market research firm and conducted with a random sample of residents.
Benefits -- accurate, reliable information
Barriers -- Cost of approximately $20,000 - $25,000 depending on the
scope of the project.
2. ) Informal research -- a written survey could be developed and inserted
in to the Mounds View Matters or other local publication. Residents would
be asked to fill it out and drop it off or mail it back. An incentive
could be used to increase participation.
Benefits -- Quicker to do, less eepensiv?
Barriers -- Can't guarantee reliability of results or getting a true
random *ample
Results
The results of the survey could be used in the following ways:
By YMCA to:
effectively determine types of programming
determine fee schedule
understand how to beat serve families/individeals in the area
communicate benefits of YMCA involvement and financial aesistance
