THIS IS IT
• Parks, Recreation and Forestry
Week of July 6 - 10, 1992
• Mary met with Dan Boxrud, from SEH at both Silver View Park and Greenfield
Park to discuss ways to get over the storm water sewer ditches in both parks. The
Parks and Recreation Commission has expressed an interest in improving the
pathway leading from the end of the sidewalk on Silver Lake Road, into Silver
View Park. This is also an key pathway indicated by the TAG regarding a
continuance along Silver Lake Road from NB to County Rd I going East through
the city and ultimately leading into Shoreview and the Rice Creek Trail Corridor.
It was decided that we could remove the Greenfield east bridge and transfer it to
Silver View Park to traverse the ditch that crosses the pathway. This would
enable a safer use of the path, would take care of the water problem and offer the
opportunity to asphalt this section of the path so that it can be used as a
connector.
Likewise, the Greenfield ditch would then have a culvert installed so that
maintenance vehicles can traverse the culvert and provide necessary mowing and
• maintenance to the Greenfield path.
This information, along with costs will be presented to the Parks and
Recreation Commission and then their recommendation will be forwarded
to the City Council at the August Work Session. This would be a Fall
project.
• Also, specs were reviewed by City Engineer Minetor for the culvert work at Silver
View Park (at the pond inlet location). Bids will be let by SEH, and will be
received by the Parks and Recreation Department.
• A big splash is being held at Lakeside Park this week. On Friday a joint activity
with the SLP and MV summer playground participants will enjoy a day at the
Lakeside Park Water Carnival. The playground leaders are hosting this activity
jointly, with assistance from the beach lifeguards.
• The Messiah Seniors held their regular meeting on Wednesday, Sharie provided
activity information and administration support for the group.
• A "Kid's CPR" class has been held three mornings of this week at City Hall lower
level. Resident Ray Long has provided the instruction for this class. Ray has
taken time off work to provide the Parks and Recreation Department with many
• hours of instruction for CPR. He is a real asset to the program.
