MEMO TO: MAYOR & COUNCILMEMBERS
• MARYFROM:
SAARION, DIRECTOR
PARKS, RECREATION & FORESTRY
DATE: AUGUST18, 1992
SUBJECT; SILVER VIEW PARK AMPHITHEATER
RANDOM PARK "HILL"
The Parks and Recreation Commission discussed the future of
Silver View Park amphitheater. The Silver View Park Improvement
Plan suggests that the amphitheater be altered. It currently is
too steep for both spectators and for mowing. The Parks and
Recreation Commission recommends that the amphitheater slopes be
softened. Parks Maintenance staff would have the opportunity to
accomplish this work in the Spring of 1993 . The transplanting of
the flowering crab trees currently located at the area of the
amphitheater would need to be removed and placed elsewhere in the
park. Transplanting would be done this Fall, 1992 so that the
earthwork could be done first thing in the Spring, in late March
or early April, depending upon the weather.
Also, the Commission discussed the "hill" at Random Park. The
"hill" serves no purpose. It is too steep to mow the entire
crest of the hill. It is not conducive to sliding, the top gets
• windblown bald and the lower parts of the hill drift in the
wintertime. The hill is too close to the parking lot and Long
Lake Road. The Commission agreed unanimously that the hill
should come down. The dirt could be used to fill in the
amphitheater at Silver View Park.
The Commission recommends the softening of the Silver View Park
Amphitheater and the removal of the "hill" at Random Park.
