MEMO TO: MAYOR & COUNCILMEMBERS FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR PARKS, RECREATION & FORESTRY • DATE: AUGUST 5, 1992 SUBJECT: OAKWOOD FIELD FENCING COSTS Councilmember Quick has requested the estimated cost of installing a fence at Oakwood Park. Mary has measured the field. Left field is 262' to the property fence. There are approximately eight trees in left field. Four trees lie within the 230' and 250' distance in left field. If these four trees were removed the left field distance could be approximately 250'. A 12' fence would make the homerun distance more difficult and would also protect the home which is located to the east. Centerfield can extend to 350' or further, with the big oak trees in center field at the 374' distance. The right field distance measures 313' to the base of the slope. Right field could be 300'. The infield measurements can accommodate 75' bases. Homeplate distance to the backstop is 20'. Side fencing is approximately 550'. The cost of an eight foot fence would be approximately $5,585.00. A six foot sideline fence would cost approximately $4,528.00. Additional options would be fencing in front of the players benches which would provide a safety factor. This would be an additional $785.00 for 20 feet of front fencing 8 feet high plus a 5 foot side fence facing homeplate. • A warning track would be necessary to comply with safety practices along the outfield fence. The warning track at Greenfield Park cost approximately $2,605.90 three years ago. I predict the cost would be similar for Oakwood Park.
