absentee voting, election judge wages and expectations, and proposed <br />legislation. <br />The deputy clerk is primarily responsible to oversee elections which takes <br />approximately 70% of their time plus over 135 overtime hours during the <br />election season which is September of the previous year of a general election <br />to November when the general election is held. Election activities include: <br />- Recruiting and scheduling election judges; <br />- Administering absentee voting; <br />- Reserving polling sites; <br />- Managing election activities; <br />- Attending training; <br />- Conducting training of election judges; <br />- Driving to Ramsey County at least 3 times a week during absentee voting <br />to drop off ballots; <br />- Procuring supplies; <br />- Candidate papers; <br />- Publishing notices. <br />Eisen beisz also works with the deputy clerk on elections which takes <br />approximately 20% of their time during the election season. ❑uring that time <br />regular work is delayed which creates inconsistency in the city's regular <br />services. <br />Election judges are considered employees, even for the one day, and all HIP <br />paperwork has to be done which takes 60 to 75 hours for staff, payroll takes <br />40 to 45 hours; IT sets up equipment which takes 40 hours; maintenance <br />crew delivers equipment and community center staff help with preparation <br />of rooms for election day. <br />In 2020, Ramsey County instituted the use of poll pads and expanded their <br />use in 2022 for voter registration. Although helpful, additional training is <br />required. Election judges have requested additional training on poll pads. <br />Absentee voting occurs for the 46 days before an election. The number of <br />absentee ballots and judges has increased since 2016. Up to four judges are <br />needed each day of absentee voting. <br />Election judge wages are currently at $14 per hour; $16 for head judge and <br />$22 for absentee voting judge. Increases are proposed in 2024 at $16 for <br />4 <br />
