20 <br />TYPE <br />Attached <br />STATUS <br />Complete <br />SIZE <br />540 sq. ft. <br />BEDROOMS <br />1 <br />BUDGET <br />$40,000 <br />part of total <br />development cost <br />CASE STUDY <br />ADU <br />in the Family <br />The case studies that follow profile real Twin Cities residents at different points along <br />their ADU journeys—from initial planning and visioning, to construction, to completion. <br />Fue Lee’s family had <br />always envisioned multigenerational living when <br />they were on the hunt for their first house. <br />Working with the City of Lakes Community Land <br />Trust (CLCLT), the Lee family had the opportunity <br />to buy one of the very first homes in Minneapolis <br />developed with an attached ADU. <br />The brand new home they purchased in the Lind- <br />Bohanon neighborhood has the perfect layout for <br />their close-knit family. Fue and two of his adult <br />siblings live in the main house. His parents have <br />their own private space in the first-floor ADU. <br />The house is designed for flexibility. While the Lees <br />have no plans to move, any family that buys the <br />house in the future could choose to rent out the <br />attached unit for extra income. <br />Responding to demand from its members, the nonprofit <br />CLCLT has recently built two more multigenerational <br />homes with ADUs. Thanks to the community land trust <br />model, all of these homes will remain affordable for <br />future generations of new homebuyers.
