Mounds View Silver View Park Pond
4.1.5 NATIVE PLUG PLANTING
Native plug planting can supplement seeding in select areas. Plugs are sometimes available for species
that are not otherwise available as seed. Shoreline areas that need quicker vegetation cover should be
considered for plugs. Watering should be planned as a contingency if sufficient rainfall is lacking during
the first growing season. Plug planting should be done in late spring or in the fall.
4.2 Cost Estimates
The following cost estimates are based on typical best management practices for conducting the activities
described above, including site preparation (if needed), follow-up treatments, and grow-in maintenance.
Cost estimates for activities that should be planned for at least 3 years of initial restoration include the
costs for implementing 3 years of treatments. Additional costs related to potential erosion control
materials and installation, tree inventory/marking, and native plug, shrub, or tree plantings are not
included.
Table 3 Vegetation Restoration Cost Estimates
Activity Approximate Acres Subtotal
Cost($)/Acre Cost($)
Tree removal (lump sum); within woodland, lowland $13,500 4.8 $13,500
hardwoods cover types
Invasive shrub control (3 years); woodland, lowland $7,500 10.3 $77,250
hardwoods, wet meadow/carr, hardwood swamp
Herbaceous invasive spot treatments (3 years) $4,500 10.3 $46,350
Native seeding—woodland, lowland hardwoods, wet $2,800 10.3 $28,840
meadow/carr, hardwood swamp; includes seed and
seeding 2 times
Native seeding—lawn to natives, small stormwater $4,500 2.4 $10,800
pond buffer(3 years); includes site preparation, seed
mix, seeding, and grow-in maintenance
Total 12.7 $176,740
5 Vegetation Maintenance
Annual maintenance of vegetation in the project area should be anticipated to include monitoring 2-3
times per year for weed control needs, tree pruning or removal needs, and monitoring for pond buffer
functionality. Spot treatments should be planned for both woody invasive plants and herbaceous
Project Number: 193806465 22
