The Commission toured Hillview Park at the annual Parks tour on May 25,
2023.
Staff attended a seminar on inclusive playgrounds by Minnesota Wisconsin
Playgrounds and provided the Commission with informational materials. The
Commission also toured "Maddie's Place" in Woodbury in order to see an inclusive
playground.
At previous meetings, the Commission had discussed installing an inclusive playground
at Hillview Parks or refurbishing the playground.
Staff reached out to Minnesota Wisconsin Playgrounds, now MWP Recreation, in order
to obtain a cost proposal for refurbishing the playground at Hillview Park.
MWP Recreation also provided a cost for a new inclusive play structure, that was
featured at the National Parks and Recreation Annual conference.
MWP Recreation provided draft plan sets that show the feature at both City Hall and
Hillview Parks. The following is a cost break down for refurbishing the playground at
Hillview Park and the purchase and installation of the structure:
Refurbish the playground at Hillview Park $ 50,981.39
Hillview National Demonstration (includes installation) $259,790.40
City Hall National Demonstration (does not include concrete work) $238,050.40
Staff is requesting the Commission review the material and provide input/direction to
Staff.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation
