MOUNDS
City of Mounds View Staff R
Item No: 3
Meeting Date:03/06/2024
Type of Business: Work Session
Administrator Review:
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Ben Zender, Chief of Police
Item Title/Subject: Change Parade Route for the 2024 Festival in the Park
Introduction:
The Police Department was made aware that the Festival in the Park Committee
requested changing the Parade route for the 2024 Festival in the Park.
Discussion:
The police department spoke with Mounds View Public Works and SBM Fire concerning
the change in parade route for 2024. The police department's questions/concerns have
to do with staffing and parade safety. The initial parade route went north on Edgewood
Drive to eastbound County Road I, southbound on Quincy Street, and westbound onto
Bronson Drive (see attached map). The parade route was changed in 2017 due to a
warning from the Dept. of Homeland Security about the increased potential of vehicle
ramming attacks.
Due to the increased number of vehicles and participants involved in the parade over
the years, a change in the parade route was requested.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends considering the 2 parade routes presented and requests direction
going forward.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ben Zender
Chief of Police
