Item No: <br />04 <br />I / 1 <br />City of Mounds View Staff R <br />Meeting Date: <br />Type of Business <br />City Administrator Review <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nyle Zikmund, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Water Efficiency Grants <br />Introduction: <br />The Met Council is offering water efficiency grants per attached/included flyer. <br />March 6, 2024 <br />Work Session <br />Discussion: <br />The Council provides 80% of the funding, the city must provide the remaining 20%. The City <br />gets to design the program. The program allows resources to be used for appliances, toilets, <br />shower heads, and irrigation <br />Staff met with Steve's Appliances to educate themselves on appliances, reached out the staff <br />person at Met Council to gain further information, and sought clarification from the city attorney. <br />Based on those discussions, available resources (workforce), staff recommends focusing only <br />on appliances as toilets need installation, showerheads are minimal in cost, and irrigation <br />systems are, or can be complex. <br />This is a competitive process of which one of the criteria is submission date. The application <br />deadlines closes March 22, 2024 <br />Next Steps: <br />If council wants to proceed they must: <br />1. Commit to the 20% (water fund revenue or special projects). <br />2. Direct staff to develop guidelines/program. <br />a. Recommendation is focus on Dishwashers and Washing Machines <br />b. Purchase and delivery only — homeowner responsible for install <br />c. Consider using preferred vendor, Met Council inquiry made, no response yet. <br />City attorney consulted and comfortable with preferred vendor. <br />Council Direction: <br />If council is so inclined, consensus to move forward with application. <br />The Mounds View Vision <br />A Thriving Desirable Community <br />
