MOUNDS ViEw City of Mounds View Staff Report Item No: 8G Meeting Date: April 22, 2024 Type of Business: CB Administrator Review: To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9913, Approving Change Order for Driveway Alterations for the 2022/23 Street Project Introduction: City Council approved Resolution 9561 on March 14, 2022, authorizing T.A. Schifsky & Sons Inc. to perform the 2022-2023 Street Rehabilitation Project, Areas J & K, with the contract expiring June 30, 2024. Background/Discussion: The Contractor is in the final phase of the project to include punch list items, warranty work, which was to begin April 22, 2024, and project close out documentation. Staff recently received several letters from residents expressing concerns over the driveway openings on Spring Lake Road, North of Mounds View Blvd. Staff was directed to provide a cost estimate for widening all of the driveway openings that were installed under 12 feet during the construction project for the April 15, 2024 Special Work Session: 1) Full driveway apron replacement and install a new apron at 12' width for an estimated cost of $49,677.77, (staff estimated draft cost). 2) Driveway Alterations to only one side of the driveway opening at the gutter line, providing a driveway opening of 12 feet at an estimated cost of $7,803.37, (staff estimated draft cost). Staff estimated draft cost are based of the current project constructions costs. Council directed Staff to obtain a Cost Change Order from the T.A. Schifsky and Sons Inc., the current project contractor for option 2 — Driveway Alterations; the cost will be (see note bottom of page). With the requested change order and based on the contractors schedule, the warranty work that was scheduled to start on Monday, April 22, 2024, had to be postponed for 30 days. Financial Impact: Potential financial Impact to the 2024 Budget: The 2024 Street Improvement Fund contains $ (see note bottom of page), for project close out. Recommendation: Staff recommends the City Council approve Resolution 9913 at a cost of $ (see note bottom of page), for driveway alterations for the 2022-2023 Street Project, to be funded from the 2024 Street Improvement Fund budget account 485-4470-7050 containing $19,545.00 for the 2022-2023 Street Rehabilitation Project Close Out. NOTE: Staff is working with the contractor and will have pricing for the City Council to consider by the City Council Meeting on April 22, 2024.
