Attachment 2 (AWARD TO BE PRESENTED AT JUNE 10, 2024 CITY COUNCIL MEETING) 2023 MOUNDS VIEW CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD Presented to AL HULL In recognition of many years of community participation and dedicated service as a resident of Mounds View WHEREAS, Al Hull exemplified the courage and determination to follow his values; and WHEREAS, Al Hull's direct service to the community revolved around serving as a Planning Commission member for two years in 2005-2006, a City Council member for 16 years, and then Mayor for five months, before he unfortunately lost his battle to leukemia on May 20, 2023; and WHEREAS, Al Hull's contributions to the community revolved around him as a person and the tremendous respect he had earned from the community at large. He demonstrated drive and initiative in his approach to citizenship through his job at The Station in Mounds View. In this position, Al was public facing and had the innate instinct and understanding on the community's overall mood. Al was the heart and soul of the City Council for 16+ years, working consistently and successfully maintaining harmony between Council members; and WHEREAS, Al Hull was a strong supporter of organizations that partnered with the City and provided valuable resources to the City's residents such as: Community Partners for Youth, Ralph Reeder Food Shelf, Community Support Center, and Northeast Youth and Family Services. Al supported these organizations personally besides supporting the City's partnership. WHEREAS, Al Hull thoroughly enjoyed the Night to Unite event because of the opportunity it provided to talk to residents throughout the community, and he enjoyed seeing neighbors spending time together. Al loved Festival in the Park. The event was an annual highlight for Al as he loved the sight of family and friends spending the day together. The community's respect for Al always came through loud and clear during the Festival in the Park parade with residents constantly calling out: "Al, Al, Al", when they saw the trailer with the City Council members; and WHEREAS, Al Hull served as an elected official for the right reasons; he wanted solely to do what was in the best interest of the community as a whole. Al made these contributions generously and selflessly. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council does hereby present the 2023 Mounds View Citizen of the Year Award to Al Hull with sincere gratitude and appreciation for his efforts as a long-time Mounds View resident, and present this award posthumously to his family.
