T�7 Item No: 8F <br />MOUNDS VIEW Meeting Date:05/13/2024 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Ben Zender, Chief of Police <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9921, Authorizing the Purchase of One Rifle <br />Rated Ballistic Shield and Transport Bag <br />Introduction: <br />The Police Department is due to upgrade our ballistic shields and currently needs a rifle <br />rated ballistic shield. <br />Discussion: <br />The department is requesting the purchase of one rifle rated ballistic shield and <br />transport bag. The police department currently has one ballistic shield however it is not <br />rifle rated protection. In order to continue to upgrade equipment along with keeping <br />officers safe, it is necessary to have a rifle rated shield. The shield will be utilized on <br />various patrol operation tasks and to provide protection for officers and improve tactical <br />response capabilities. The shield can be used during mass shootings, critical incidents, <br />or other dangerous situations to shield and evacuate injured individuals while <br />minimizing the risk to responders. <br />The total purchasing cost for the rifle rated ballistic shield and transport bag is <br />$8,392.16 from Account 480-4200-1230 (2023 Public Safety Aid money). <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends authorizing the purchase of one rifle rated ballistic shield and <br />transport bag. <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br />Ben Zender <br />Chief of Police <br />
