r- MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW COUNTY OF RAMSEY STATE OF MINNESOTA • February 25, 1988 6: 30 p.m. Mounds View City Hall Council Chambers CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6: 43 p.m. by Chairperson Wayne Burmeister. ROLL CALL Commissioners present : Burmeister, Long, Silvis, Rowley, and Starr Commissioners absent : Anderson, Daniels Councilmembers present: Wuori Staff present : Director Saarion, Admin. Assistant Linke and Forester Wriskey Visitors : Keith and Todd King David and Sue Rademacher CHAIRPERSON' S REPORT None COUNCILMEMBER' S REPORT Councilmember Wuori reported on the progress of the Pinewood Playground Committee . Comm ttee . • Fund raising activities to date have raised approximately $20, 000 . She also stated that a seminar on Wetlands is being held on Saturday, February 27 beginning at 9: 00 a.m. at City Hall . This is open to the public and Park and Recreation Commissioners are encouraged to attend . 1987 END OF YEAR FORESTRY SUMMARY City Forester Rick Wriskey distributed a pamphlet on purple loosestrife which is an agressive plant that is invading our wetlands, replacing valuable wetland plants , eliminating food and shelter for wildlife and choking waterways . He added that both the Silver View Park and Greenfield Park wetlands were at risk . Forester Wriskey distributed a brochure on the gypsy moth and reported that no gypsy moths had been trapped in 1987. Forester Wriskey then proceeded with a slide presentation on a variety of forestry issues including oak wilt , Dutch elm disease and • vandalism in the parks . Following the presentation he answered questions from the Commission.
