MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW COUNTY OF RAMSEY • STATE OF MINNESOTA September 27, 1992 6:30 p.m. Council Chambers CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Burmeister called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL: Members present: Gary Stevenson, Scott Dentz, Wayne Burmeister, Dave Long, Edd Trettel, Frank Silvis, and Pam Starr. Council member present: Diane Wuori Staff present: Mary Saarion APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Because the minutes were inadvertently omitted from the packet, the minutes will be reviewed at the October meeting. GOLF COURSE TASK FORCE REPORT: Gary Stevenson presented an update on the golf course task force. The first task force meeting was a catch-up of information by SEH. Also, the Task Force directed staff to pursue information regarding appraisals of the additional parcels of land and contact financial consultation. Information on financial options and a cost update including the cost of the additional properties for an eighteen hole course will be presented at the next meeting. A group task force members walked the area before this Park and Recreation meeting. DISC GOLF: Councilmember Wuori suggested that the Commission look into the possibilities of constructing disc golf courses at Greenfield and Silver View Park. She explained that her son and many others have taken an interest in disc golf. It is an activity which is cheap, with only the cost of a disc necessary. It is also a sporting activity that can be performed alone or with a group. It is very challenging and can be competitive • or social. Director Saarion looked into the cost of the disc golf "holes". The cost would be approximately $1,547.00 for nine holes. • After discussion, Commissioner Long made a motion, -seconded by Commissioner Silvis to buy and install a 9 hole course at Silver View and a 9 hole course at Greenfield in 1993 or sooner, as resources and monies are available. Motion passed unanimously, 7 ayes and 0 nayes.
