MOUNDS VIEW PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, June 25, 1998
6:30 p.m. Conf. Rm. C
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Silvis called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Members present included Chair Silvis, Commissioners Dentz, Stevenson
and Starr.
APPROVAL OF
MINUTES: Commissioner Stevenson made a motion seconded by Commissioner
Dentz to approve the May, 1998 minutes. Motion passed unanimously.
BASKETBALL
GOALS: Director Saarion reviewed options for basketball goals for the Community
Center. Options included installed ceiling goals or portable goals. Benefits
of the portable goals were that they were less expensive, offered flexibility
to move goals for '/z court play on half the gym floor and opportunity to
store them when other activities are occurring in the gymnasium.
Commissioner Stevenson made a motion seconded by Commissioner
Dentz to recommend purchase of the portable goals. Motion passed
unanimously.
WOODCREST
PARK BLDG. Staff reviewed information obtained of portable classroom building options
from a Lakeville company. The buildings are portable and would be set on
block, leveled and anchored. Commissioners discussed the special needs
for a building at Woodcrest because of the high water table and moving
soils. Commissioners were not completely "sold" on the portable building.
Staff will continue to search out options for a replacement park building for
Woodcrest Park.
SUMMER REC
PROGRAMS: Director Saarion updated the Commission regarding summer programs.
New programs that are running successfully include the summer youth
basketball league at Sunnyside School, Fastpitch program at City Fall,
Karate at City Hall, Entertainment in the Parks at Lakeside Park, Tripping
to the library (taking youth to the library's entertainment) and daytime
soccer league. Programs seem to be going fine although registration for
classes as late because school was let out late.
