• MOUNDS VIEW Exhibit A
Parks & Recreation Commission
July 26, 2000, 6:30 pm
Minutes
Commissioners present: Sherry Gunn, Rich Sonterre, Dawn Little, Theresa Lexcen,
Mike Szczepanski, and Frank Silvis.
Commissioner absent: Tony Zuk, Stan McDonald, Dave Long
Staff present: Terri Blattenbauer(YMCA), and Mike Ulrich (City of Mounds View).
A motion was made to approve the minutes from June 28 by Rich, seconded by Sherry.
Resident, Cliff Ash was available to present to the Commission, a committee of private
citizens to advise the Commission of concerns and issues with the Silver Lake Woods
area and pond. Cliff will report at the August Park & Recreation Commission meeting.
Staff reported to Commission on the status of program planning and development for
• Fall, 2000. Newly added or enhanced programming includes: Teen night additions, and
relations with New Brighton, Regional competitive, NFL Punt, Pass, & Kick contest,
Teen Leaders peer group, holiday shopping parent's day out, special school day's out
activities, and the JCPenney opportunity to provide activity at the MV Manufactured
homes.
Commissioners received two YMCA publications in last months mailing. It was the
consensus of the group that staff continue to send these updated pieces regularly.
Two newspaper articles were distributed to Commissioners regarding reports on unsafe
playground equipment and steps to improve playground safety. The group was
encouraged to read and comment.
Staff indicated that the timeline for budgets would not allow enough time to follow
through with the neighborhood park focus groups. The purpose of the meeting was to
confirm that park improvements indicated by the Commission would concur with the
residents in Mounds View. Due to the timeline, the group suggested a dollar amount be
asked for in the budget process, and priorities be addressed at that time.
Rich made a motion to request $150,000 in the 2001 budget, to include a park
building and other improvements designated priorities. Seconded by Sherry.
Motion carries.
•
