Park and Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting Minutes <br />August 24, 2006 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />1. Roll Call: Call to Order 6:37 p.m. <br /> Present: Kroeger, Long, Kunz, Kunza, Palm, Arel, Aukee, Lee, Weldon, Szurek <br /> Absent: Dazenski, McIntyre <br /> <br />Approval of minutes from the July 27, 2006 meeting. <br />Motion by Kunz, 2nd by Arel to approve minutes. Discussion: Kroeger wished to amend item 8g to include support from NSSA as well as New Brighton Soccer Club. Motion approved with <br /> amendment and 2nd. Motion passesd 6-0 <br /> <br />3. Public Input - Citizens are encouraged to speak to the Park and Recreation and Forestry Commissioners on issues of concern. NO RESIDENTS PRESENT <br /> <br />4. Forestry Report – Annual report from the City Forester. See Summary notes. <br /> 5 new oakwilt sites this year. <br /> <br />5. YMCA Update: <br />Weldon reported fall soccer up and running with 10 teams ages 4-14 <br /> Swimming will begin soon with Sept/Oct. MV Matters <br /> Preschool programs will begin in Fall <br /> 5K Family Fun Run had about 30 participants during the Festival in the Park Weekend. <br /> <br />6. Unfinished Business: <br />Oakwood Park Proposal: Staff provided layout to scale of possible options for field use: <br />Option 1: <br />1 minimum adult-size field running North/South <br />1 Eight and under field running North/South <br />Unable to rotate fields East/West <br />Playground must be in NE or SE corner <br /> <br />Option 2: <br />1-2 Twelve and under fields <br />1-2 Eight and under fields <br />Playground can be in any corner <br />Can rotate fields and change size options to fit needs <br /> <br />Motion by Kunz to proceed with redevelopment of Oakwood Park with setting aside space on SouthWest corner (near Quincy and Oakwood) for playground. <br />2nd by Long <br />Discussion: Aukee added IBL’s support and request to continue to develop existing baseball fields in the city. <br />Motion Passed 7-0 <br /> <br />Motion by Aukee to remove existing Oakwood playground equipment, picnic tables, and grill; leaving only the swingset as soon as possible. 2nd by Kunz. Motion Passed 7-0.
