Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> August 28, 2008 <br />6:30 P.M. <br /> <br /> <br />1. Call to Order at 6:32 PM. Roll Call: Kunz, Aukee, Palm, Peterson, Arel. <br /> Staff Present: Erickson and Prindle <br /> <br />2. Approval of minutes from the July. 24, 2008 meeting. Motion to approve by Arel, 2nd by Peterson. Motion Passed, 5-0. <br /> <br />3. Public Input - Citizens are encouraged to speak to the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commissioners on issues of concern. Representatives from Irondale Baseball Youth League. <br /> There has been significant growth to the league and they are requesting Silverview ball fields #1 and #2 to be designated as youth baseball fields for grades 5-7 during their regular <br /> season which runs from the end of April to the end of July. Some field upgrades would need to be made. A proposal was included. Commission will discuss with Park Supervisor at September <br /> meeting. Would need cost estimates. Need to address competition for Shoreview league wanting to use these modified fields. Need to address lighting fee that might be necessary for <br /> the adult softball league if can’t play at Silverview. Request MVCC to bring field use summary as to what groups are requesting field reservations. <br /> <br />4. YMCA Update: Kirk Erickson or Pat Prindle. <br /> Oakwood Park fields looks phenomenal! Fun Run during MV Festival in the Park had over 250 participants. Fall programs filling quickly. Swimming, play days, and indoor soccer has openings. <br /> Outdoor soccer is full and comparable to last year. Adult softball league has 3 teams registered. Looking for one more team. Considering Adult volleyball league and 3 on 3 volleyball <br /> beginning in November. Broomball may be offered this winter. Fall Family Fun Day on Oct. 4th. Birthday party options will include same price but can also have party at a park building <br /> with MVCC staff. <br /> <br />5. Unfinished Business: <br />√ a. Hillview Ball field- Grading has been started and should be completed in the next two weeks. <br /> <br />√ b. Oakwood/Greenfield Trailway: Staff recommends that we continue with our maintenance type repairs and wait and see what the RCWD accomplishes. We will be doing minor repairs to <br /> the trail surface and trimming around the plantings. (seedlings and established trees) <br /> <br />c. Silverview Park: The proposals for the aerators has been received, they came in higher than expected, we will want to talk about this. One of the pumps that we attained from the <br /> Bridges Golf Course may have to be replaced. The cost for trenching and supplying the power is right at the limit of what was budgeted. Revisit this topic at September meeting. <br /> <br />d. There was the suggestion of starting an “ADOPT-A-PARK” program. Information has been submitted for the website, cable tv, and MV Matters. Staff will report in September. Scout <br /> troupes may be interested once they start up this fall. Suggestion to put a flyer up at the park buildings and contact troupe leaders through MVCC and ISD621 encouraging groups and <br /> residents to participate. <br /> <br />
