Mounds View City Council June 24, 2024 <br />Regular Meeting Page 8 <br />1 Council Member Cermak stated she was proud to announce that $1,180 was raised at the fundraiser <br />2 at the Pink Flower for the Mounds View Police Foundation. She thanked the public for showing <br />3 up and supporting the Mounds View Police Foundation. <br />4 <br />s Council Member Cermak thanked everyone who worked to plan the Juneteenth event. She stated <br />6 this event was very well done and she hopes it continues on into the future. <br />7 <br />8 Council Member Gunn reported she would be attending the League of Minnesota Cities <br />9 Conference in Rochester later this week. <br />10 <br />11 Council Member Meehlhause stated the Juneteenth event was well put together. He thanked <br />12 Shauna and Andre for their efforts to plan this event. <br />13 <br />14 Council Member Meehlhause reported at the last Council meeting former Mayor Al Hull was <br />15 honored as Citizen of the Year. He read a text he received from Tasha Hull thanking the Council <br />16 for the honor that was bestowed on Al. <br />17 <br />18 Council Member Meehlhause explained he attended a visitor's bureau meeting last week and <br />19 provided the Council with an update on revenues for this year. <br />20 <br />21 Council Member Meehlhause indicated he would be attending the League of Minnesota Cities <br />22 Conference in Rochester this week as well. <br />23 <br />24 1. Council Member Meehlhause/City Administrator — YMCA Youth in <br />25 Government — Youth Advocate Cohort <br />26 <br />27 Council Member Meehlhause explained he received an email last week from Brittney Wilson. He <br />28 stated Ms. Wilson used to run the YMCA Youth in Government program at the Mounds View <br />29 Community Center. He commented on how a Youth Advocate Cohort was now being formed at <br />30 the State level. He reported this cohort was seeking youth to serve on City boards and commissions. <br />31 He asked if the Council would support youth serving on the City's commissions. He stated this <br />32 was a really good way for youth to be exposed to local government. <br />33 <br />34 City Administrator Zikmund stated the youth commissioners could serve in an advisory role and <br />35 would not be a voting member. <br />36 <br />37 Council Member Gunn commented other cities have young people serving on their commissions. <br />38 She stated she fully supported the City pursuing youth commissioners. <br />39 <br />40 Council Member Clark indicated she supported this endeavor. <br />41 <br />42 Consensus of the Council was to support the City pursuing youth commissioners. <br />43 <br />44 Mayor Lindstrom thanked all of the people who were involved in planning the Juneteenth event. <br />45 He stated he was very impressed by all of the speakers that were selected for the event. He <br />46 explained he appreciated all of the efforts of staff as well. <br />
