Mounds View Park and Recreation Commission,
I am not sure if all of you are aware of this incident, but I would like to apologize
for the act of vandalism that two friends and I had committed by spray -painting the Silver
View park building. This was very immature and irresponsible of us especially since we
were almost all legal adults at the time. I know this must have been very inconvenient for
all of you as you have the duties of maintaining the parks but then have the burden of
cleaning up after this mess. I understand that there was a painting crew that came to the
park and covered up the spray paint, and that this also came out of your budget. I have
also been informed that the price of the damage came to $166.00. This money will be
reimbursed to you as restitution for our crime. After turning myself into the police, I
became completely aware of what I had done and was utterly embarrassed to even admit
doing it to my family, let alone a whole community. We had gone back to the park to
examine the damage after the police had filed their report and I felt shameful as people
had to walk by with their children and see that on the side of a park building. I am
currently enlisted in a diversion program, so instead of being prosecuted I am learning
from my mistakes and learning to make better decision, rather than just doing time and
paying a fine. I feel very shallow and undeserving but I would still like to extend my
apology to you. I am sorry for the crime that I committed against your park and I can
assure you that this will never happen by my hands again.
Sincerely,
Daniel Goldsmith
