<br /> <br />There are two types of DNR trailway grants that the County Road 10 Trailway Project: Segments 1-5 could be eligible for: <br /> <br />Local Trail Connection Program: The program purpose is to promote relatively short trail connections between where people live and desirable locations, not to develop significant new <br /> trails. Priority is given to projects with residential connections to state and regional facilities. A secondary purpose of the program is to develop linkages to existing trail segments. <br /> Minimum grant - $5,000. Maximum grant - $100,000. There is a 50% "cash match" for eligible elements of the project proposal. The project must be completed by June 30, 2009. (7 of 53 <br /> projects were jointly funded in 2006 from the local and regional trail grants for a total of $655,000) <br /> <br /> Federal Recreational Trail Program: The program purpose is to encourage the maintenance and development of motorized, non-motorized, and diversified trails by providing funding assistance. <br /> Funding includes $1,500,000 split 30% for motorized, 30% non-motorized, and 40% to projects demonstrating both motorized and non-motorized use. Priority will be given to projects that: <br />* Accommodate motorized and non-motorized uses, including same-season access corridors <br />* Involve urban youth corps workers such as the Minnesota Conservation Corps <br />* All-terrain, off-highway motorcycle, 4x4, and snowmobile projects <br />* Horse, in-line skate, cross-country ski, hike, and bicycle projects with priority given to trail linkages and restoration to existing trail systems, necessary trail facilities, or <br /> trail signage to improve safety. <br />* Mountain bicycle projects, development of new single track systems, located in areas of high user demand, in partnership with city, county, and state land managers <br />Minimum grant - $1,000. Maximum grant - $100,000. There is a 50% "cash match" for eligible elements of the project proposal. The project must be completed by June 30, 2009. (34 of 88 <br /> projects were funded in 2006 for a total of $1,200,000) <br /> <br /> <br />Successful applicants are notified in June 2007, and funds become available in November 2007. <br /> <br />Staff has met with the City’s Consultant to discuss the details and requirements of submitting DNR trailway grants. As required in the applications, the City must submit a resolution <br /> supporting the application. Resolution 7012 will satisfy this requirement. Copies of the grant application and the grant instruction manual are available should the City Council to <br /> review them. <br /> <br />The applications also include a requirement to submit Letters of Support. Staff is requesting Council assistance in identifying civic groups from which the City should request a letter <br /> of support for this grant (i.e. Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Society, Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission, Planning Commission, seniors groups, Ramsey County Active Living…). <br /> The grant
