Item No: (7 <br />Meeting Date: 12/04/06 <br />Type of Business:WS <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Kurt Ulrich, City Administrator`�(> ("—•—' <br />Item Title/Subject: 2006 Mounds View Citizenship Award <br />Background: <br />The City of Mounds View Citizenship Award recognizes ordinary citizens who have demonstrated <br />outstanding dedication to improving the community. Nominations are to be solicited from the <br />public and reviewed by the City Council. <br />Past recipients of this award include: <br />2004 — David Jahnke <br />2005 Frank Silvis <br />Discussion: <br />The City of Mounds View Citizenship Award recognizes a Mounds View resident who represents <br />the energetic, courageous, persistent and informed involvement of an ordinary citizen in the issues <br />and challenges that affect the City of Mounds View. The award seeks to honor highly effective <br />community leaders who have invested a significant amount of time improving their community <br />Nominations are open to the public and the award is subject to the following guidelines: <br />Eligibility <br />Nominees must be: <br />® A Mounds View resident, business owner or land owner <br />® Recent elected officials, City employees, City contractors, or political candidates are not <br />eligible. <br />Selection Criteria <br />1. Courage: Exemplifies courage and determination to follow one's own values. <br />2 Initiative: Demonstrates drive and initiative in his/her approach and overcoming <br />challenges along the way, <br />3. Time Commitment: Volunteers a significant amount of time and energy to the betterment <br />of the City of Mounds View and its residents; more than just financial contributions. <br />4. Effectiveness: Generates positive results for the community. <br />5, Unselfishness: Does not expect anything in return for his/her actions, i.e. financial <br />compensation, fame, or political notoriety. <br />Upon review of all nominations received for the 2006 Mounds View Citizenship Award, the City <br />Council will make a selection and the award will be presented at the annual Town Meeting to be <br />held on April 28th. <br />Recommendation: <br />It is recommended that the City Council open nominations now, with completed nomination forms to <br />be submitted to the City by February 28, 2007. All nominations will then be reviewed by the City <br />Council at the Work Session on March 5, 2007. <br />
