Feasibility & Cost Analysis
for
Pedestrian Bridge Re-use
Mounds View, Minnesota
November 19, 2007
Bonestroo File No. 435-07000-0
INTRODUCTION
The City of Mounds View currently has two prefabricated pedestrian bridges stored at its public works
facility. The City has requested a brief report discussing the scope of work and costs that would be
associated with reusing the bridges within the City.
BACKGROUND
The two bridges came from the former City-owned golf course near the intersection of I-35W and U.S.
Highway 10. The bridges were no longer needed at that location after the site was redeveloped into an
office complex by Medtronic. Bonestroo performed a cursory inspection of the bridges on November 8,
2007, and observed the following:
x The two bridges appear to be identical
x The bridges are prefabricated truss structures approximately 40 feet long and 10 feet wide
x The bridges are made of self-weathering steel (“rusty” look, no painting needed), with timber
decking
x The bridges were designed for a 10,000 pound vehicle, and presumably pedestrian loads
x The bridges appear to be in good condition, except for the timber decking
x The bridges appear to have been manufactured by Contech (formerly Continental Bridge) in
Alexandria, MN. Specific design information can probably be obtained from Contech.
