M0U__N_DitSVV!rW <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />Item No: 5.E. <br />Meeting Date: October 28, 2019 <br />Type of Business: Consent Agenda <br />City Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Rayla Sue Ewald, Human Resources Coordinator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9181, Appointing Anthony Ohlendorf to Police <br />Officer <br />Introduction: <br />The Deputy Chief submitted his notice to retire in September, allowing the City a window <br />for recruitment prior to his retirement effective date of November 27, 2019. Anticipating <br />internal shifting and promotional processes to occur, staff requested to begin the <br />recruitment process for Police Officer. Resolution 9168 passed on September 23, 2019, <br />approving the hire of a Police Officer. <br />Discussion: <br />Staff conducted an internal recruitment process for the Police Officer position. The <br />posting was open for five (5) working days. Staff received three (3) qualified application <br />packets by the deadline from members of the City's Police Reserve Unit. All were <br />interviewed by Police Department personnel and the Human Resources Coordinator. <br />Anthony Ohlendorf was selected to advance in the hiring process. Mr. Ohlendorf <br />successfully passed the oral board examination, physical agility testing, a police <br />background investigation, a pre-employment physical, and the required hiring <br />assessment. Staff is requesting to begin employment of Mr. Ohlendorf as a Police Officer <br />on or about November 4, 2019. <br />Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: <br />Create a culture where employees desire to work. <br />Financial Impact: <br />This is a budgeted position. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends City Council approval of Resolution 9181, a resolution authorizing <br />Anthony Ohlendorf to the position of Police Officer at Step 1 ($26.43/hour) of the <br />compensation schedule in accordance with the 2017 — 2019 Labor Agreement between <br />the City of Mounds View and the Law Enforcement Labor Services, Inc. #204. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Rayla Sue Ewald <br />Human Resources Coordinator <br />The Mounds View Vision <br />A Thriving Desirable Commune
