-..._,
OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS PAGE 8 SEPTEMBER 20, 1.993
Councilmember Trude commented that she is concerned that the •
homeowners in the area will feel the cities have abandoned the park
if there is a name change. Councilmember Trude asked if the Spring
Lake Park councilmembers have discussed this possibility.
Mayor Wells stated that this issue has not been brought up to the
Council.
Councilmember Trude stated that it would be her perception upon
seeing a sign for Lakeside Lions Park, that the Lions had
established the park for the cities. Councilmember Trude stated
that she would also believe the cities no longer contribute to the
upkeep of the park, which is not true.
Mayor Linke stated his understanding that the Lions are primarily
contributing to the infrastructure of the park while the cities
continue to support the basic upkeep of the park. Mayor Linke
stated that this should become part of the history of the park.
Councilmember Trude commented that perhaps they should call their
city hall Mounds View Lions City Hall as their Lions have
contributed much to the plantings and upkeep of the grounds there.
Mayor Linke reminded both Councils that both cities continue to
contribute approximately $7,500 per year towards the park fund and •
will continue to do so with the park being managed by both Parks
and Recreation Departments.
Councilmember Trude asked if this issue needs to be decided tonight
and Mayor Linke replied negatively.
Mayor Linke indicated that the Mounds View City Council will
address this issue at their regular Council meeting.
Councilmember Blanchard reiterated her concern that the people who
established the park should not be forgotten.
Mayor Wells agreed, stating that no matter what the Lions have done
or will do, the cities will and should always remember the original
founders.
Mayor Linke asked if there should be some kind of plaque or sign
erected recognizing the founders and Mayor Wells agreed.
Mayor Wells added that Spring Lake Park will also be bringing this
issue back for discussion at a regular Council meeting.
Mayor Wells stated-that he would like to discuss another topic
related to Lakeside Park and that is, the annual budget. Mayor
Wells stated his concern that each year, both cities automatically •
put $7,500 into their budgets for the operation and maintenance
