2. We must make our roads last longer as we do not have the <br />resources to rebuild them all the time. Right now we have 16 <br />licensed haulers in the City which means that just about any <br />weekday we have at least 4 to 5 garbage trucks on any given <br />street. This amount of heavy traffic beats up the roads which <br />forces us to work on them, with a single hauler it would mean <br />only one truck on any given street per week. <br />3. As the contracting agent, the City can require the hauler to <br />meet certain standards regarding garbage and recycling <br />pickup. This could be anything from requiring that the hauler <br />• set rates for the amount of garbage collected at your home to <br />what type of items should be recycled. Right now some of <br />the current haulers do not have different rates for different <br />amounts of trash picked up, those that have very little pay the <br />same as those who have a lot, you should only have t pay for <br />the amount that you normally put out. <br />4. It has been proven that when a hauler picks up every house <br />on a street, he can do it cheaper than if he picked up only a <br />few homes. With the City acting as the agent for all the <br />residents, the rate for trash pick up will be lower than now <br /> <br />
