Mounds View City Council March 28,2011
• Regular Meeting Page 13
Mayor Flaherty reminded the public there would be a Town Hall meeting on Monday, April 18th
from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. He encouraged all to attend.
Mayor Flaherty stated he attended a Five Cities Meeting last Monday. Those in attendance were
representatives from New Brighton, Roseville, Shoreview, Arden Hills, and Mounds View. The
new mayors of Roseville and Arden Hills were present and introduced themselves to the group.
The hot topic was TCAAP,but no additional information was available at this time.
Mayor Flaherty reported a member of the Mounds View Police Department was recently
recognized for outstanding performance. He read the letter aloud to the Council and thanked
Investigator Erickson for his service to the community.
Mayor Flaherty noted he has had conversations with the Street and Utility Committee members.
Concerns have been raised and there was perhaps a miscommunication between the group and
Council. He recommended the Committee meet with the three new members to present them
with the purpose of the Committee along with proper expectations. At that time, all questions
could be addressed and a timeline for Area D presented.
Council Member Mueller questioned a proposed date for the Committee meeting. Public Works
Director DeBar reviewed the Area D timeline in detail and recommended the meeting take place
after the neighborhood meeting, which was tentatively scheduled for April 11th.
• Mayor Flaherty agreed with this recommendation that the Committee meet after April 11th to
assist with further orienting the new members with the charge of the Committee. He noted the
timeline for Area D should be discussed as well.
Council Member Hull asked if the group was meeting in April. Public Works Director DeBar
stated the group was scheduled to meet in all odd numbered months and was not scheduled to
meet in April. He noted the March meeting was cancelled. He further reviewed the Committee
meeting process in years past explaining what would take place in the coming months.
Council Member Hull cautioned Staff from spending too much time on Committee meetings.
Mayor Flaherty indicated he did not want to bog down staff either, but felt further orienting the
Street and Utility Committee members would greatly benefit the City.
Public Works Director DeBar indicated he would plan for a Streets and Utility Committee
meeting prior to the April 1 1th neighborhood meeting to provide them with additional
information on the Area D timeline along with expectations for the coming year.
City Administrator Ericson suggested the Council review the Streets and Utility Committee's
purpose further at a future work session meeting.
Mayor Flaherty agreed with this recommendation stating he would be in favor of reviewing the
• Resolution. He requested this be a joint meeting with the Streets and Utility Committee
members being present.
