Mayor Coughlin stated this was a safety issue he has advocated since coming into office last year. He stated he had nothing to do with votes previous, nor would he speak to votes previous by a previous Council, over which he had no control. He advised that all they could do was the best they could, and he would do this. An audience member asked Mayor Coughlin if he had a daughter or son. Mayor Coughlin stated he had both. The audience member asked what if they had been killed on the highway. Mayor Coughlin stated this question has gone through his mind since Friday. An audience member stated Edgewood Middle School was willing to find the funds, and he was certain Pinewood Elementary School was also willing to help. • Mayor Coughlin stated last year he had done research to see if he could retrieve the original funds. He indicated there is a chance that the original funds could be utilized. He stated he was in favor of this then, and he would push for it now, which was all he could do, as one vote on the Council. An audience member stated he was sure all of the people in the audience would donate money toward the bridge. He stated he was very happy they built Windsong, because before this, the children always had to get a ride, but now they can walk. He inquired if the Council thinks about crossing the highway to go see the Windsong, and why didn't they build the bridge since it is such a busy road. Mayor Coughlin stated this was something he advocated personally, and the Council would be discussing this further that evening. An audience member inquired how long it would take before something was done. Mayor Coughlin stated the Council has now been meeting for an hour, and they are acting. He stated as soon as the public comment is over, and they move forward with the official meeting, this issue would be addressed. He stated they would explore all options available to the City for funding. He indicated he had already gone to the State Capitol to speak with the State Senator • and Representative to determine if other sources of funding are available to the City.
