She stated that as a parent, she • would be willing to volunteer to help the children cross, so that they do not attempt to cross in large groups. She suggested the theater might be able to assist by showing the movies that interest the children during the daytime hours, when there is more light. She stated they must emphasize what can be done right now to make everyone feel safer, and to decrease the risk in the community. An audience member inquired if there was anyone on the Council who had voted against the pedestrian bridge. He indicated the City had funds for the pedestrian bridge, and the Council had thrown it out. Mayor Coughlin stated he, Council Member Thomason, and Council Member Marty were new to the Council. He stated Council Members Quick and Stigney were the only Council Members who were also members of the previous Council. The audience member inquired how Council Members Quick and Stigney had voted with regard to the pedestrian bridge. Council Member Quick stated he voted against the measure, and in favor of the bridge. Council Member Stigney stated he voted against the bridge, because he did not believe the proposed location was appropriate. He stated he thought the bridge should be constructed at the • Edgewood Drive intersection. The audience member stated the City lost a $750,000 government grant when the Council voted against the bridge. Council Member Stigney stated he was opposed to the proposed location of the bridge, which was to be constructed on Long Lake Road. The audience member inquired if Council Member Stigney believed that no bridge was better than having a bridge in that location. Council Member Stigney advised that a proposal for a pedestrian bridge at the Edgewood Drive intersection, the current subject of discussion, had never come forward. The audience member inquired if Council Member Stigney had considered the consequences of no bridge. Council Member Stigney stated the vote was taken for a specific site on Long Lake Road. The audience member stated this site was approved, and the money was granted for it. He inquired if Council Member Stigney felt responsibility for this accident. . Council Member Stigney stated he did not.
