Mounds View City Council February 10, 2003
Regular Meeting Page 9
Council Member Marry indicated he would like to give the Committee the opportunity to work
on the issues.
Mayor Linke clarified there was a committee in the beginning but it fell apart and is being re-
established.
Council Member Stigney indicated there was a motion made and seconded to get rid of the
YMCA with a 60-day notice at the last Council meeting of the year. He also indicated that
giving a 60-day notice was discussed at the YMCA.
Council Member Gunn commented that, as a member of the committee, she would like to have it
set up and get the first meeting going as soon as possible.
Council Member Quick indicated he did not say anything about throwing anyone out tonight but
he believes that things need to be changed as the City is not getting the bang for its buck and he
is afraid that this committee will fall into the $183.22 bracket and become a waste of taxpayer
money.
Ayes - 5 Nays - 0 Motion carried.
Council Member Marty indicated he has concerns with sending out the computer equipment for
disposal without smashing the hard drives as he has heard that, even though hard drives are
erased, the information is still there and can be retrieved.
Public Works Director Lee indicated he had anticipated this question and had asked Mr. Hess
about that and was assured that all hard drives have been cleared of information.
Council Member Marty indicated that other cities thought that too and it was discovered later that
information could be recovered.
Public Works Director Lee assured Council that the data has been removed and indicated that
smashing the hard drives poses a hazardous waste issue from mercury contamination.
Council Member Stigney asked if the computers were functional and if they could be donated.
Public Works Director Lee indicated that the computers are not functioning.
Council Member Quick asked what were they used for.
Public Works Director Lee indicated all areas of City Hall.
MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Quick. To Approve Consent Agenda Item F But Requiring that the
Hard Drives be Removed and Manually Destroyed.
Council Member Quick said he feels Staff needs to pull the hard drives and crush them.
