Mounds View City Council August 25, 2003
Regular Meeting Page 5
1 Community Development Director Ericson indicated there is a performance evaluation with 20
2 different criteria and a majority of those criteria must be met in order to receive the satisfactory
3 rating.
4
5 MOTION/SECOND: Marry/Quick. To Approve Resolution No. 6071, a Resolution Approving
6 a Step Increase for Kathi Osmonson, Mounds View's Building Official and Fire Marshal.
7
8 Ayes - 5 Nays - 0 Motion carried.
9
1o Council Member Marty indicated he had asked that this item be pulled to make residents aware
11 of the County's proposal to close the suburban courthouse. He then asked Staff to explain the
12 difference in the amended Resolution.
13
14 Mayor Linke indicated that this issue has been ongoing for at least 18 years and the County is
15 attempting to close the only remaining suburban courthouse and force all court cases to go to St.
16 Paul and that will seriously impact residents and City Staff, particularly officers have to go to
17 court.
18
19 City Administrator Ulrich indicated there was a meeting today with Judge Mott and
20 approximately 40 interested individuals and he has admitted that a suburban court does make
21 sense and is willing to look at it although it may not be in Maplewood.
2
23 Mayor Linke indicated the City has vacant space that the County could rent.
24
25 City Administrator Ulrich indicated the language in the Resolution concerning the judge not
26 being cooperative was removed because it did not suit the purpose of the Resolution.
27
28 Council Member Quick commented that the County is proposing this as a money saving option
29 for them.
30
31 City Administrator Ulrich indicated that it may save the County money but pushes the costs off
32 to the City.
33
34 Council Member Quick indicated he would be willing to pay a little more through a County Levy
35 to keep a suburban courthouse.
36
37 MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Gunn.
