Resolution 6446 Approving aOne-Day Charitable Gambling Permit for the Irondale Marching Band to conduct Charitable Gambling at the Mermaid. Desaree Crane stated that the Irondale Marching Band would like to hold a charitable gambling raffle event on February 11, 20005 at the Mermaid. She stated that the Irondale Boosters currently have their nonprofit status on file with the Gambling Control Board. She stated that staff recommended approval of this permit. • Mayor Marty stated that not asking for the permit earlier was an oversight by the Irondale Marching Band, and they had already advertised for the event and booked the Mermaid. He stated that holding the Special City Council meeting for this item was unusual in that special meetings were normally only held for emergency type situations. He stated that perhaps a special fee schedule should be adopted in case this ever happened again to cover costs. MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Flaherty. To Approve Resolution 6446 Approving a One Day Charitable Gambling Permit for the Irondale Marching Band to conduct Charitable Gambling at the Mermaid, and to waive the reading. John Peck, president of the Band Boosters, apologized for the inconvenience caused due to his oversight. He stated that 43 percent of their membership comes from Mounds View students. He stated that next year they would make sure they applied for the permit well in advance of the event. Jeff Hollowman, chair of the event, stated that the dinner and raffle is $125 for two, and the top raffle prize is $1,000. He stated that there will also be a silent auction. He thanked the Council for holding the special meeting for them. Ayes -4 Nays - 0 Motion carried. •
