Mounds View City Council May 23, 2005 <br />Regular Meeting Page 17 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that no fees would be charged for calling 911. <br />Mayor Marty asked if this is something the City has to do or they won't have 911 services. <br />Police Chief Sommer confirmed stating that the City Administrator and City Council could voice <br />their concerns but the consolidation would take place as planned. <br />City Administrator Ulrich explained that this shifts the burden to the County tax levy noting that <br />suburbs are now picking up more than the share they had before. He stated that the actual impact <br />to tax payers would be greater as they are picking up the dispatch for the City of St. Paul. He <br />stated that they should re-figure the formula used. <br />Council Member Gunn expressed concerns regarding the potential impact on efficiencies and call <br />answering. <br />Police Chief Sommer explained that there would be one center and it can be designed to work <br />very efficiently. He assured Council that it is not a huge issue noting that the Dispatch Policy <br />Committee would be the Committee reviewing how the service is being delivered and would <br />determine how the center would be structured in the future. <br />Mayor Marty asked if the Council has to take action on this issue right now. <br />• City Administrator Ulrich clarified that the Council does not have to take action right now. He <br />stated that Staff has asked the County to provide further information on the potential impacts to <br />the taxpayers and the information has not been received yet. <br />Mayor Marty moved to postpone the decision. <br />Council Member Stigney asked Police Chief Sommer if there were any problems with the <br />structure of the resolution verbiage. <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that he has no problems with the structure of the resolution <br />Mayor Marty rescinded the motion to postpone the vote. He stated that he would like to see at <br />least one Mayor and one City Council Member, per City, involved or represented on the Board <br />that oversees the delivery of the service once it becomes operations. He stated that his concern is <br />equal representation for all Cities. <br />MOTION/SECOND. Flaherty/Gunn To approve Resolution 6534 regarding the Consolidation <br />of 911 Dispatch Services in Ramsey County. <br />Ayes - 4 Nays-0 Motion carried. <br />• <br />
