Mounds View City Council September 12, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 24
. Youth and Family Services would play in relocation if anyone has a transition family located in
one of the communities. It is felt they will play a major role in that transition process.
Mayor Marty commended Jeremiah Anderson for stepping forward to serve.
Mayor Marty stated some in the community are giving golf course employees a hard time. He
noted they will be out of a job soon and urged everyone to support them for doing their job.
B. Reports of Staff
City Administrator Ulrich announced a meeting of the Active Living Council, which supports
walkable communities and is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, will be held at the New
Brighton Family Services Center on September 29, 2005 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and
encouraging attendance. He explained this is important because in discussions with County
about the stoplight, they mentioned that Blue Cross Blue Shield may sponsor a grant for
improving walkablility of the community.
City Administrator Ulrich advised that the I-35W Coalition passed a resolution stating they want
to focus their efforts on transportation needs in the corridor for two years. This is important
because some communities dropped out when they felt the Coalition lost focus by getting
involved in other areas. This resolution brings the Coalition back to its roots to focus on the
corridor.
• Ci Administrator Ulrich re orted the New Bri hton Police De artment received the Safe and
~' p g p
Sober Grant.
City Administrator Ulrich stated the YMCA is now on line with new recreational software that
allows residents to check on program availability and pay for programs on line. Councilmember
Thomas asked if the YMCA is linked to the City's web site. City Administrator Ulrich answered
in the affirmative.
City Administrator Ulrich stated Staff attended a meeting with the Rice Creek Watershed District
that involved all member cities. The group talked about establishing a technical advisory
committee to help assure consistent enforcement of rules. He noted tens of thousands of dollars
have been spent by cities at the direction of the Watershed District to improve storm water
systems. Discussion occurred about using their levy for extraordinary costs related to storm
water management when it impacts the benefit of the broader district.
Mayor Marty stated Staff met with County Commissioners Bennett and Parker and will be
holding a follow up meeting with him to explore different options for stop lights at Silver Lake
Road and County Road H and then will look at funding options.
Director Ericson provided an update on the Harstad Red Oak Estates Townhome Project. He
• advised that correspondence was sent to let .residents know what is happening. Harstad is
moving forward with plans to develop the area consistent with the Judge's orders of 2004.
