Mounds View City Council September 26, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 3
• of the surve done indicating that
David Jahnke, 8428 Eastwood Road, reminded the Council y
almost 60% of the people wanted to get rid of the golf course. He noted there is a small group of
people who think otherwise and while he respects their opinion, he wants to remind the Council
of the survey. Also, residents elected the Council to do the job for Mounds View and the
Council has a duty to run the City because they have been elected to do that. Mr. Jahnke stated
he thinks the Council is running the City in good fashion.
Ken Glidden, 5240 Edgewood Drive, asked the Council to look at the petition filed because it is
not about the golf course. The issue is with the financing and the deal given to Medtronic that
short changes the citizens of Mounds View for 25 years. He stated that is far more important
than the golf course that has been on the table for five or ten years. Mr. Glidden restated it is not
about the golf course but the tax burden that is being put on the shoulders of the tax payers and
off the shoulders of Medtronic.
Councilmember Stigney stated it is his intention to lift the tax burden from the resident's
shoulders by bringing in Medtronic.
Mr. Glidden stated a lot of information has come forward that the income coming in is a "spit in
the wind" compared to if Medtronic paid their full tax as he does.
Councilmember Stigney stated he disagrees with Mr. Glidden's comments and will see what the
• Council can do with it for the residents.
Ed Benson, 5108 Long Lake Road, stated everyone has heard about the deal at every meeting but
the deal was taken before anyone knew the City would give away the golf course and saddle
residents with Tax Increment Financing for 25 years. He stated that made a big difference for
Mounds View residents and the Council should know that.
6. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUISNESS
A. Proclamation Proclaiming October 2005 as Toastmaster Month in the City of
Mounds View
Mayor Marry read in full a proclamation proclaiming October of 2005 as Toastmaster Month in
the City of Mounds View and presented it to Lori Higgins.
Lori Higgins, representing Toastmasters International, stated they are proud of their group and
she is pleased to receive this recognition.
B. Proclamation of Appreciation for the Hard Work and Dedication of City
Staff during the September 21, 2005 storm
• Mayor Marty read in full a proclamation of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of City
Staff during the September 21, 2005 storm.
