Mounds View City Council December 12, 2005 <br />Regular Meeting Page 17 <br />Councilmember Gunn asked how they can operate under the old ownership. City Attorney Riggs <br />advised that if the City has evidence that the business has actually transferred, they would need to <br />cease operations. <br />Councilmember Flaherty stated they will not get a license for transfer until they receive a <br />satisfactory fire inspection and correction of violations. He noted that alone should be enough <br />impetus for them to comply. <br />Building Official Osmonson asked if staff should send them a letter stating that and indicating <br />the Council will consider the request for transfer of the business license once they receive a <br />satisfactory fire inspection. <br />City Administrator Ulrich noted the next Council meeting will be on January 9, 2006. <br />The Council directed staff to bring back this matter for action once the property receives a <br />satisfactory fire inspection. <br />H. Resolution 6690 Authorizing the Acceptance of a Traffic Safety Award from <br />the MN Department of Public Safety <br />Police Chief Sommer explained this action will accept an award from the Minnesota Department <br />of Public Safety and a $2,000 grant, which must be used for traffic safety purposes as additional <br />funding to benefit the Mounds View Police Department. <br />Police Chief Sommer explained that the Police Department submitted an application for this <br />year's Safe and Sober challenge award. The application detailed the Police Department's <br />program of participation in traffic safety enforcement and education, which included the <br />Department's participation in the State-wide enforcement waves throughout the year, the <br />Department's directed traffic enforcement in problem areas, and response to complaints of traffic <br />violators. The Department of Public Safety awards those police and sheriff departments from <br />throughout the State whose efforts were deemed exceptional in improving traffic safety. The <br />Minnesota Department of Public Safety judged the Mounds View Police Department's efforts to <br />decrease impaired driving and increase seatbelt use to be exceptional and awarded the <br />Department with second place and a mini -grant in the amount of $2,000 to be used for traffic <br />safety purposes. The Police Department proposes the funds be used to purchase digital recording <br />equipment for the Intoxilyzer alcohol testing area and interview room for the processing of <br />driving while intoxicated offenders. He recommend approval of the resolution and acceptance of <br />the grant. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Thomas/Gunn.
