PUBLIC INPUT
Jim Batten 2332 Laporte said that he watched the work session last week and he has questions
about the sound wall. He then asked why it could not be done as requested and why it has to be
just extended.
Mayor Marty explained that, legally, MniDOT has to extend the wall from where it ends and
cannot "piece meal" the wall.
Mr. Batten asked what happens with the sound wall capabilities when the height is lowered from
20 feet to 15 feet.
Public Works Director Lee explained that 20 feet is not the standard height, and Mn/DOT bases
the height on the specific situation. Director Lee explained that Mn/DOT bases the height
requirement on the ability of the wall to reduce the noise level to acceptable levels. The daytime
decibel reading was approximately 65.
