l
/'N
f MEMO TO: Clerk -Administrator and City Council
FROM: Engineering/Planning Technician fjI
DATE: June 30, 1983
SUBJECT: STREET LIGHT PETITION
Staff received a petition requesting the installation of a street
light between 8320 and 8330 Pleasant View Drive. The petition meets
all criteria of Resolution No. 1069 with the exception that a property
owner who is directly affected by the proposed street light location
(8330 Pleasant View Drive) did not sign the petition. Staff contacted
the owner of 8330 Pleasant View Drive and he did not sign the petition
for the following reasons:
1) lie has a bedroom located in the front of the house and he
does not like light shining in at night.
2) lie already has a fire hydrant and electrical box in his
front yard and does not want a light pole.
3) Someone has to pay for the light and, since he sees no
need for it, he does not want his taxes to raise because
of unneeded lights.
Attached to this memo are the petition, plat map and recommendation
from the Acting Police Chief. There are no street lights from
Highway 10 and Pleasant View Drive to 84th Avenue and Pleasant View
Drive.
Per Resolution No. 1069, revised by Resolution No. 1354, the Council
would have to find that the placement of the street light at this
location would be in the interest of preserving the health and safety
of the residents in the area.
The people at N.S.P. desire to place new street lights at locations
where an existing pad -mounted transformer exists. Placing lights at
locations other than these would require trenching and wire placement
from one of these transformers to the light location. This may also
require the consent of additional property owners.
FJK/bc
Attachment
