PAUL, MINNNSO'rA 551o1 <br />cF <br />QUESTIONS/ANSWERS <br />INSTRUCTIONS RE: TRAINIING REIMBURSEMENT MONEY <br />On January 1, 1982, the State of Minnesota began collecting money from a <br />ten percent surcharge on all moving traffic offenses. From this penalty <br />assessment money, the POST Board has been appropriated 5900,000 to be <br />used as a reimbursement to local units of government to offset the cost <br />of providing continuing education to peace officers and constables. <br />This notification will address some of the frequently asked questions <br />about reimbursement and serves as an instruction sheet regarding making <br />application for the funds. <br />1. Q. When will POST distribute the official application forms? <br />A. By law, the POST Board may not distribute the application <br />fonns until July 1, 1983. <br />2. Q. Who is required to sign the application forms on behalf of <br />the local units of government? <br />A. Two people: (1) the chief law enforcement officer of the <br />agency; and <br />(2) an officer (other than chief law enforce- <br />ment officer) designated by resolution of <br />the governing body, <br />NOTE: To expedite matters so we can get the money back to <br />You as soon as possible after July 1, please ask your <br />governing body (council, commissioners, etc.,) to <br />designate a signatory now; <br />3. Q. When will the money be sent to us? <br />A. The POST hoard is required to give applicants 45 days to <br />return the application forms. However, as soon as all <br />applications are received at POST, they will be processed <br />and the money sent out. Please send your application to <br />us in a timely fashion so we don' <br />45 days from July 1, t have to wait the entire <br />-OVER- <br />
