COMMUNITY Ith:;ullltCl: CI:NTE.Il AND <br />VARIA14CE FOR THE REDUCI:II NUMBER Ol' PARKING SPACES <br />WHEREAS, the Mounds Viow School Ui:;trict has decided to <br />close Edgewood Junior High School at the end of the 1981-1982 <br />school year; and <br />WHEREAS, the School District inu:nd:i to preserve the <br />building for future educational use; and <br />WHEREAS, a community resource conter is in opera Lion in the <br />City of New Brighton; and <br />WHEREAS, the School District wishes to maintain and expand <br />its present activities which now exist at. the Now Brighton facility, <br />although space is somewhat limited at this facility; and <br />WHEREAS, Edgewood Junior Iligh School i:; an illi:al location for <br />the activities proposed by the School District; and <br />WHEREAS, a conditional use permit is required for a community <br />center in an R-1 residential district; and <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 40 of the Municipal Code identifies various <br />requirements for the conditional use permit, one of which is narking; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the existing 161 parking spaces (following restriping) <br />do not conform to Chapter 40 requirements for community centers which <br />states that 043 spaces be provided; and <br />WHEREAS, a study has been conducted on the parking situation <br />at existing Edgewood Junior High School to determine existing and <br />future parking requirements; and <br />WHEREAS, the existing 140 spaces can be expanded to 161 by <br />restriping the present parking areas; and <br />WHEREAS, an additional 02 spaces can he provided on -site should <br />future need arise; and <br />WHEREAS, the School Dis'r ct has detarmined that the proposed <br />use as a community center woul Lllow ful•u c reconvor:;ion of Lhe <br />building use to a s:;hool; and <br />
