MEMO TO: Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Clerk -Administrator, /; <br />DATE: January 12, 1983 <br />SUBJECT: POLICE CHIEF LETTER OF RETIREMENT <br />Attached please find a letter from Police Chief Ernie Grabowski <br />indicating that he intends to retire from the employment of the <br />City of Mounds View as Police Chief,effective March 31, 1983. <br />Ernie has requested that he be placed on the agenda for the purpose <br />of discussing his observations regarding the Department and his <br />recommendations for departmental management during the interim. <br />I would ask that the Council not take any formal action with respect <br />to the establishment of any interim management for the Department or <br />the referral of a request to begin the process of hiring a new <br />Police Chief to the Civil Service Commission prior to your receiving <br />a formal recommendation from me regarding these two issues. I am <br />presently involved in extensive evaluation of the process and <br />discussions with individuals within the State of Minnesota who are <br />knowledgeable in the field of law enforcement and will be submitting <br />a formal recommendation to you no later than your February 7th <br />Agenda Session. I do not anticipate that the delay of a few weeks <br />will significantly impact upon the operations of the Department or <br />any effort to hire a replacement and would appreciate your forebearance <br />until you have received my report. <br />DFP/pf <br />Attachment <br />
